Man, it's been so long since I was in school and it feels great to be back.  I just spent about five hours studying and I feel fantastic.  No, I'm not sick.  I just happen to love acquiring knowledge.

This week I start student teaching and I've been thinking up ways to incorporate Bloom's educational objectives into my curriculum.  One of the things my students will be doing is interpreting past historical conflicts by creating a piece of art.  Specifically, we'll be studying Native American history like the Modoc Peace Meeting and the Trail of Tears.  It will interesting to see how the students interpret these events.  After their presentation I'll be showing my drawing of the event and ask them what they think I'm saying or not saying.  In addition to that I'll also be illustrating past historical figures which I'll be posting here.

While I was at the University this week I stopped by the art building and talked to some professors who said that they wouldn't mind me using the studio classroom for some oil paintings!  For the longest time I had no where to set up an easel and now I do.  I'm super excited.

Where there's a will there's a way.

Dude, that pic of yours is heart wrenching. Yeah, maybe I'll do an after school program with the students and teach them how to oil paint or use photoshop depending on what tech the Jr. High has. I imagine we'll be covering Wounded Knee as well.

Where are you going to grad school?

i´m in academy of visual arts in Leipzig, germany. is quite cool. but after 6 years i have to leave before i get an inventory :D

hey, for the project a good preparation is to watch through the 500 Nations documentaries. maybe 1 episode right before the drawing sessions - dunno how long the classes go by yours.

lol. Thx, I'll mention the documentary to my Resident Teacher and add it to my Netflix. The classes I'm taking are anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. The classes I'm teaching are only 48 minutes.

hmmm, i like to draw alot by watching movies - i think one episode is 20 mins - meaning you have 28 mins extra to doodle arround. anyway - google video has the first 15(?) episodes combined to 1.30 h flicks [link] - i think it´s some good documentary.

Yet another similarity! I often pause movies to draw a face at a new angle, or study how jeans wrinkle, it's a great exercise and really helps. I'll be checking out this documentary for sure. For my class I have to talk all of this over with my Resident/Master Teacher for approval. I think I'll assign it has homework. Not sure.
