Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

I recently read a study comparing the deaths of our armed men and women under the regime of Bush and Co. and Clinton. Apparently, despite the Iraq War Bush has had less die under his mantel then Clinton. Pardon me? Excuse 'em wa? I guess Bush is just a man of peace and I'm horrible mistaken. A victim of the liberal media at Faux News. What the study doesn't take into account is the deaths of Iraqi Security Forces the people our good men and women are training to take over so America can leave Iraq) which is a little higher at around 39,575 and that's just from '06 to '08. This is actually a conservative number as Thomas Ricks wrote in, "Fiasco," the death toll is only what is tallied at the morgues. This doesn't count the beheaded individuals thrown into the Tigris or Euphrates; people blown apart by IEDs; etc. Interesting. I guess they ultimately don't count, do they? Sure they're on our payroll just as our armed forces are, but they're not American. I mean why expend your own men when you can get someone else to do your fighting for you? That's what you call, "strategery." So spread the word and defeat ignorance. There's more going on than what you're being told.
