Edit: I received a call today that this pic won a local art competition! Thanks for all the faves everyone! :)

damn it..I wrote this whole long comment about how great this is, and then I went to delete one letter and my friend calls and I forget to lift my finger.

So the general gist of the comment was..Aquaman should really go to this dark place, they never take him anywhere dark enough..reading the title if it was in this frame of my mind would not nauseate me like the drivel DC keeps sticking him with..he should be epic..not a joke..I would pick up this cover and buy it without a second thought..even if another artist inked the pages and it was just the cover..just to own that cover would be amazing..which leads to if you ever sell this artwork..tell me where I can buy it..

Thank you so much for the awesome comments, StBastion!

I agree, there is so much untapped potential for Aquaman that he shouldn't be a joke! His title needs to tap into darker story lines to erase all the jokes out there. There was even episode of Family Guy wher they were making fun of him; I was not happy. I am curious to see what DC will do with their reboot.

I have so many ideas, this piece being one of them. Even considering that pop culture was into oceanic adventures, thanks to Pirates of the Caribbean, this character still has yet to connect with audiences like DC's trinity: Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. The BP oil spill also would have provided so much material for this title! Even the guy on River Monsters seems to face more danger than Aquaman!

I just might sell the original when this sees publication. ;) Thanks again.

Prime example is Abe Sapien, his stories are so amazingly dark and deep and he displays such freedom in the ocean while I feel like Aquaman's ocean is a few miles in every direction..

I anticipate you one day bringing life back to one of my favourites.

see this creature design is dark..and Aquaman can so easily be done..dark..but he's never been done dark enough for my liking. I would pick this cover up without a doubt. If you're ever selling copies of the work I'd definitely be interested.

dude this it totally bad ass.

seriously you do shit like this in your sequentials (or covers) you'll have no trouble getting work once people know your stuff and you've built up a good amount of these.

that can be key is that they see you do enough of one style of work.

really similar to be honest to me doing a large run of the black drawing style art...it leaves very little question in an editor or writers eyes what your "voice" is.

which is key...you have to "brand" yourself so to speak.

~!

but yeah man this is AWESOME!@

Hey thanks Rich! This really means a lot, especially coming from a comic book professional like yourself. Aspen really paused and talked about this piece at Comic Con a couple of years ago. The way I figure it, 22 - 27 pages a month and an average of 5 panels a page; that's 135 sequential pieces of art; that's work! so better keep it simple when starting off. ;)

Thanks again amigo. I think I'll now finish off the sequentials that I started a couple of years ago that tied to this splash.
